Media Literacy is a way of decoding the secrets of advertisements and informational sources. It teaches you to find the lie in companies ways of advertising.
Examples of Persuasive Techniques of advertising:
1.Big Lie - Companies use this technique by persuading someone to buy something by being dishonest about the product they are trying to sell. It's an easy technique that some people barely notice. For example: The Coca Cola Company uses Santa Claus to advertise their soda drink. They show Santa drinking Coca Cola which targets little kids to buy Coca Cola. There was a rumor going around that the Coca Cola company created Santa Claus to advertise their drink more effectively. This rumor is actually false. Look here for more information > http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/santa.asp

2.Simple Solution - Companies use this technique by having ads that persuade people to buy it by offering simple solutions to problems. For Example in the ad bellow it is advertising Mr. Clean Magic Eraser by offering that it is stronger than other brands meaning it will clean better.
3. Humor - This technique persuades people to buy it by making an ad humorous. Laughter, so said, it the best medicine for anything, especially if you don't want someone to look to heavily into something. So, companies use humor ads to distract the viewer from looking deep into the ad. For example: In the ad to the bottom left they are trying to advertise "DiGiorno Harvest Wheat Crust Pizza" by using humor. They have a 'humorous' slogan to catch the readers attention, "Wheat bagels everywhere are waving the white flag." This is supposed to be a metaphor for comparing wheat crust pizza to wheat bagels by telling that wheat bagels are "surrendering" to the wheat crust pizza because it is better.

Warm Fuzzies - This is a technique of using cute and adorable children or animals for attracting an audience basically made up of kids and adults. For example: when an adult sees an ad of a small little kid wearing a certain product and they see how happy the little kid is, they will probably think 'oh, that product is making that kid so happy, I'll buy it for my child so he/she can be that happy too!' Another form of this kind of advertising is using small animals as bait to catch an audience’s attention. As in: when a child looks at an ad of a small puppy with a product then will probably think 'Oh, look mommy! There's a cute puppy on this page! Can I have one of these?' This technique can be very affective. For example this picture bellow is advertising Ben & Jerry's by using cute cow as a distraction.
